Dimas Zuniga, 45, pleaded guilty Monday before Superior Court Judge Lisa Miralles Walsh to a charge second-degree distribution of child pornography, state Attorney General Christopher Porrino said in a statement. Zuniga was arrested March 22, 2016, when State Police raided his home and found hundreds of files of videos and images of children, along with file-sharing software to make multiple files that were available for others to download, Porrino said. In pleading guilty, Zuniga admitted he knowingly used the file-sharing software to make multiple files that others could obtain, according to Deputy Attorney General John Nicodemo, who prosecuted the case for the state Division of Criminal Justice. The prosecutor will recommend Zuniga receive a five-year prison term when he is sentenced July 14. Zuniga will also be required to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law and will be subject to parole supervision for life, authorities said. Zuniga was one of 16 arrested in Operation Safeguard , a child pornography sweep conducted by the Division of Criminal Justice, ICE Homeland Security Investigations and the New Jersey State Police. Child pornography is a product that is manufactured by torturing and sexually exploiting young children, and criminals like Zuniga who distribute this product online contribute directly to that exploitation, Porrino said. During the investigation, agents of ICE Homeland Security Investigations, detectives of the Division of Criminal Justice, and detectives of the New Jersey State Police Digital Technology Investigations Unit monitored several online file-sharing networks that are popular with offenders who download and trade child pornography. The investigators searched for digital fingerprints of known child pornography, as well as search terms used by those who download and share child pornography, and identified New Jersey residents who were downloading the pornography and making it available to others, authorities said. They said a State Police detective downloaded videos of child pornography from a shared folder at an IP address traced to Zuniga.
