What to expect in Season 3 of My Dad Wrote a Porno. The author? A middle aged, retired father of four who goes by the penname Rocky Flintstone - and who just so happens to be Jamie's dad. However far from turning on the average reader, it's a tear-inducingly hilarious look into the workings of a fifty-something man's mind - the sort of storytelling that has made at least one fan almost crash their car during the course of an episode (and has made this fan frequently fall into laughing fits on his morning commute. After two series, a live tour and a book. My Dad Wrote a Porno has become a bona fide global phenomenon with its own fan following (shout out to the "Berlinkers"). So, in advance of season three, we asked the stars of the show to come to Vogue House to talk about what we can expect from the latest book, who they'd cast in the film and the characters' possible general election affiliations. Watch the full Facebook Live above, and read all the highlights below. GQ: What is the most shocking thing a fan has given you? Jamie: We did get given a buttplug once from a fan. http://tubetria.mobi/ James: One with a horse’s tail on it. Jamie: In fact I think [James] has still got it. James: I do still have it. It’s in the drawer, but it’s still in the packet. Jamie and Alice: Sure. Welcome to S-Town: your Serial replacement podcast is here. From the makers of Serial, S-Town is the most compulsive and downright strangest true-crime podcast to date. By Jonathan Heaf. The general election ’s coming up. How do you think the characters in Belinda Blinked will be voting? Jamie: Belinda loves Theresa May - those kitten heels! She would not be happy about Corbyn slashing corporation tax. She’s very pro-business. Alice: I think Sterling would be right wing. Jamie: He’s a Republican definitely.
James: I think Bella, who’s a bit thick, would probably forget to even register to vote. Alice: Although this suggests that the book is set in the present day, which is really ambiguous. There are lots of “ye olde” references. They might be living in a time when John Major’s in power, we don’t know. You’ve got a book out now. What do you do in the book more than what’s in the podcast? Jamie: We took the first book of Belinda Blinked and we decided to treat it like it was one of the classics: Shakespeare, Austen, something you’d study in school. So our book is a spoof study guide of Belinda Blinked - there’s character profiles, there’s key themes, there’s a sex tree about how everyone is connected. Alice: It’s like York Notes. If you never got round to reading the book, it’s like a cheat’s guide to it. Although we do hope that one day it’ll be on a syllabus and this will be the official book that’s stocked in schools. Jamie: Also what’s really great is that there’s special author notes from dad. For each chapter there’s a bit of his process, where his inspiration came from, why he wrote it - which actually he doesn't answer. Alice, since you’ve just written a cookbook. what would Belinda serve for a dinner party? Alice: She’s only had about three meals in the past ten months. What’s she had so far? Jamie: She’s had a full English. She had some spaghetti Bolognaise (not that she ate it). Alice: She’s not really a foodie, Belinda. I imagine you’d probably go round to her house for dinner and she’d put down something like a little bowl of nuts and that would be all you have all night - you’d get so pissed. What can we expect from My Dad Wrote A Porno season three? James: We know some things. Alice: We do know things we can never unsee. Jamie: What’s great with where we’re at with the books is that he wrote four of them before we started the podcast so he’s still in his infancy of writing [even by season three]. So it will be interesting to see when and if we get to a point where we’re reading something he wrote post-podcast - to see whether he starts writing what he thinks people find funny. James: It’s good. I mean from what I’ve heard, I like it. I’ll be listening. Has he asked you about anything that you think might make it into a future book? Jamie: You never know what he’s going to use. So probably! Alice: Even the innocuous stuff. Jamie: I once bought a leather desk from an antiques shop and that ended up in one of the books. Alice: In Dr Robbins’ office. Can you give us a hint as to what the first chapter is called? James: It caught us off-guard. Jamie: It’s quite funny. Alice: We can’t say, Jamie: It’s not a name. James: I think it’s probably the best line in the first chapter so we need to keep it under wraps! Jamie: We peak very early. James: See my thing was whether we’d go straight back into where we were [at the end of the last book] or whether time’s moved on, so the first chapter title will give you a sense of whether we’ve moved on or whether we’re picking up exactly where we left off. Jamie: What we will say is that because [Rocky] wrote these books in a fever and in a rush, things are happening that you would have heard about. Things that people are anxious about finding out about… Alice: Doors left open… Jamie: Things move on in… I wouldn’t say a logical way, but they’re referenced. James: Chapter One is eventful, I’ll tell you that. It’s like he’s waited two books for a bit of plot. Alice: I imagine it’s top-heavy for activity because I imagine he burns out - that’s what happened in Chapter Three in book one. There’s a whole admin chapter. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a chapter about accounts. Are there any particular places you’d like to see Belinda travel to in this book? Alice: Somewhere tropical would be nice. James: I’d like to see her go to Morocco or something. Very Sex and the City 2 . Alice: I was thinking more beach-y, but Morocco could be good, in the marketplaces. Although might be tricky for her the scantily clad. I’d like to see Rocky’s ideas about certain places because the RSMs - Regional Sales Managers to you and I - are all such stereotypes. Paddy O’Hamlyn, even though Rocky’s Irish, is an awful Irish stereotype. So I feel like if they went to Australia, I dread to think what they’d be like. We'd like to see Belinda go back to The Pentra. Jamie: He got so angry with me the other day about The Pentra. He was like, “God’s sake, Jamie. It’s not The Pentra, it’s the Penta!” I’d added an “r” into it. It’s my fault, but it’s supposed to be The Penta. James: But what’s The Penta? Jamie: Apparently it was a real place at Heathrow where he used to go. Alice: Let’s keep it as The Pentra, that’s funnier. How does no-one get pregnant in these books? Alice: Well, there are forms of contraception so presumably people are on those. It’s not a total mystery. Jamie: Belinda’s got a coil, mate. James: But also while we’re two books in, it’s only been four weeks so far so who know’s what’s going to happen in the future. Jamie: Maybe she’s already pregnant. Can you imagine her as a mother? God help us. Alice: maybe that’s one of the details he’s missed out - he’s not really gone into the safe sex stuff.
