What these systems have in common is that they all highlight a location, path, or movement that is important to the sport and yet was previously invisible—or at least hard to see—on television. In American football, for example, the objective of most plays is to get (or prevent) a first down, which is achieved by moving the ball 10 yards down the field within four plays. Before we developed our system, the only indication of the down line was an official holding a pole at the edge of the field. If you were watching the event on TV and the TV camera happened to zoom in on the play, you could no longer see the man with the pole. To solve this problem, we inserted a yellow line into the live video; to TV viewers, the line appears to run across the width of the field, apparently underneath the athletes, making the distance to the first down obvious at all times.
Fully agree that EV's are more efficient at turning electricity into forward motion, too. My personal feeling is that fuel cell vehicles will probably serve a smallish part of the market (10%? 20%?) because not everyone will be able to get access to a plug at home, and some niches with long range requirements (interurban buses, 18-wheeler trucks) will probably be better suited to fuel cells. So while I don't think they're a dead end, they're probably a much smaller end, than batteries are. рџ™‚
As most apps either transitioned to native Windows versions or became defunct, games were the one major holdout. They lived and died by performance, and couldn't afford the overhead Windows introduced. But eventually Microsoft found a way to give games the hardware access they needed, and slowly but surely, native Windows games became increasingly common. By the time Windows 2000 was introduced on February 17th, 2000, only ten years after the release of Windows 3.0, running MS-DOS programs had gone from the key feature that made Windows what it was, to a tacked-on compatibility mode only meant to support legacy software. MS-DOS as a platform, and any programs still tied to it, had faded into obscurity. Brightcove - Search, click and watch. Music videos, news, travel, recipes, adventure.
